Word order of attributive constructions
This parameter considers the word order within classifying attributive constructions. This type of attributive construction excludes numeral, possessive, and subordinate attributive constructions. Prototypically, qualitative adjectives (a subcategory of adjectives) refer to shape, size, or color. In such a phrase, the adjective appears alongside the noun, the latter being its syntagmatic head1, and neither fulfills a predicative function. Types:
AdjN: The attributive adjective precedes the modified noun.
NAdj: The attributive adjective follows the modified noun.
AdjNWbetween: The attributive adjective precedes the modified noun, and a linking word must appear beween the two items.
AdjNWoutside: The attributive adjective precedes the modified noun, and a linking word must appear before or after the entire attributive phrase.
NAdjWbetween: The attributive adjective follows the modified noun, and a linking word must appear beween the two items.
NAdjWoutside: The attributive adjective follows the modified noun, and a linking word must appear before or after the entire attributive phrase.
When a language displays more than one type, multiple values can be listed. If one type is dominant, a slash (/) can separate the two values, with the dominant value appearing first; if neither is dominant, they are listed with an ampersand (&) separating the two.
